Switching from Trados or memoQ

Lexora looks in the folders where Trados and memoQ keep your work and lists what it finds. You choose what to bring over. Nothing is changed in Trados or memoQ.

Find your work

  1. Open the switch windowOn the first screen, choose Switch from Trados or memoQ. Later, it is in Settings under Find my Trados and memoQ work.
  2. Look at the listLexora looks in the usual places, such as Documents\Studio 2024, your MultiTerm folder and memoQ’s folders, and sorts what it finds into projects and packages, translation memories, termbases and abbreviation lists.
  3. Choose and importTick what you want and choose Import. Anything already in Lexora is skipped, so running it again is safe.

Keep your work somewhere else? Choose Choose another folder and pick the folder, for example the one you copied from an old computer.

What comes over

FromBecomes
Trados memories (.sdltm)Translation memories, with tags kept as real tags so matches work at once
MultiTerm termbases (.sdltb)Glossaries
Trados project folders and packagesProjects, ready to translate
Abbreviation listsAbbreviations, so “approx.” doesn’t end a sentence
memoQ packages and TMX or TBX exportsProjects, memories and glossaries

When an import finishes, Lexora says what came in and what it skipped. A memory is made for its language pair; you choose which projects use it on the project’s page.

memoQ memories and term bases

memoQ keeps its own memories and term bases in a format only memoQ reads. Lexora lists them and tells you how to bring them over:

  1. Export from memoQIn memoQ, export each translation memory as TMX and each term base as TBX (or CSV).
  2. Pick the folderBack in the switch window, choose the folder you exported them to. Lexora lists the files and imports them.

memoQ packages (.mqout, .mqxlz) and bilingual files (.mqxliff) open directly. See Trados and memoQ packages.

Keep your keyboard shortcuts

Open Keyboard shortcuts at the bottom of the sidebar and choose the Trados Studio or memoQ set. Change any single shortcut on top of it. The changes are kept when Lexora updates.

What Lexora doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t connect to Trados GroupShare, Trados Cloud or memoQ server projects. It works with the files you are sent.
  • It runs on Windows only.
  • Word counts can differ from the analysis in a package. If your fee depends on that analysis, go by the package’s report.
