Getting started with Lexora Studio

From the installer to the first file you send back. It takes about ten minutes, and the sample project lets you try everything before a real job.

Install and sign in

  1. DownloadGet the installer from the download page. Lexora Studio runs on Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. It installs for your Windows user only and needs no administrator rights.
  2. Sign inLexora opens on its sign-in screen. Continue with Google, or type your e-mail and enter the 6-digit code we send. There is no password.
  3. Your trial startsFourteen days with every feature and 15,000 AI credits. No card is needed. Your plan and computers are in Settings → Account and on your account page.

If Windows shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” window, choose More info, then Run anyway. It can appear while the installer isn’t code-signed.

The first screen

With no projects yet, the Projects page offers five ways in:

  • New project starts your own job.
  • Open a sample project gives you a small project to try things on.
  • Take the guided tour points out the main parts of the screen. You can start it again from the command menu.
  • Switch from Trados or memoQ brings over your memories, termbases and projects. See Switching from Trados or memoQ.
  • Restore a backup opens a workspace backup from another computer.

The interface language is set in Settings. Lexora speaks English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil) and Ukrainian.

Create a project

Choose New project and drop your files into the window. You can drop documents, a Trados or memoQ package, memories (TMX or .sdltm) and glossaries (TBX) together.

  1. Name and languagesGive the project a name and pick the source and target languages. A package fills the languages in for you. Add more target languages and each one gets its own project with the same files.
  2. ClientOptional, but worth it: projects for the same client share that client’s memory and glossary.
  3. Memory and glossaryPick the client’s existing memory and glossary, or let Lexora make new ones. Without a memory, confirmed translations are not saved for reuse.
  4. AILeave Use Lexora AI in this project off if your client doesn’t allow AI. Nothing leaves your computer until you turn it on. See AI translation and review.

Choose Create project. Lexora may offer to find the key terms in your documents, so you can settle them before you start. Word files with tracked changes ask first: the translation is based on the accepted text.

Translate

The translation editor shows each sentence as a segment, with the source on the left and your translation on the right. Matches, terms and notes for the current segment are in the panel beside it.

KeysWhat they do
Ctrl+EnterConfirm the segment and go to the next one. A confirmed segment goes into the project’s memory.
Ctrl+SpaceInsert the best memory match. Ctrl+1 to 9 inserts the others.
TabTake the type-ahead suggestion from your memory or glossary while you type.
Ctrl+EAdd the selected words as a glossary term.
Ctrl+Shift+FSearch the memory for a word or phrase.
Ctrl+KOpen the command menu, to find any action by name.

In Word, Excel and PowerPoint files you just type. Lexora puts the bold, italics and links back when you export. Pre-translate in the editor’s toolbar fills empty segments from your memory first.

Every shortcut can be changed under Keyboard shortcuts in the sidebar, including a set that matches Trados Studio or memoQ.

Check your work

Checks run as you work: numbers, tags, glossary terms, spacing, punctuation and length. The segment you are typing in is checked when you confirm it or move on. Run QA opens every open check in the project, each with its segment ready to fix. See Quality checks.

Export and send it back

Choose Export in the editor. Translated documents gives you each file in its original format, or the return package for a Trados or memoQ job. For a fuller handoff, open the Delivery desk. See Export and delivery.

Where your work is kept

Projects, memories and glossaries are saved on your computer as you work. To move to another computer, open Settings, choose Export workspace backup, and on the other computer choose Restore backup.

Lexora also keeps restore points of your memories and glossaries. See Memory restore points.
